Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution series that aired last year was a real eye-opener.  School lunches, full of processed “mystery meat,” white flour and high sodium,  are in need of a major overhaul.

After watching the series last year with my 8 year old son, I called the local school district lunch program office and inquired about the ingredients in the food.  I was dismayed to find that in a county that prides itself on the health of its population, the food served in our children’s cafeterias is a long way from what many would call healthy.  Along with the organic produce offered on many of the menus, packaged and processed meats and food that include dyes and tons of preservatives are still served.

Watching Food Revolution helped us learn more about school lunch nutrition, and impressed upon my son the need to consider what he eats.  He now chooses to bring his lunch from home most days, and he is as excited as I am to see the new episodes this season.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Season 2 starts tonight!  Watch the preview!
